Resumen

Ethnophycology studies the interrelationships between man and aquatic autotrophs. Our approach is urban ethnophycology, where the algae become consumers at different stages of presentation (dehydrated, fragmented, ground, packaged, and sold in bulk) and often have lost the aspect that occurs in nature. These reasons, coupled with the lack of tradition in the consumption of seaweed, the preference of other foods, its high prices, the restricted to certain socioeconomic levels, the association unpleasant smells and textures, and the emerging legislation, determine fragmentary and partial knowledge, in which misconceptions with other successful are also combined.
