Ecology is one of the disciplines that have been called to solve environmental issues. However, little has been investigated if such issues affected the inherent development of this discipline. In this sense, this work will try to evaluate to what extent the context of environmental issues has transformed ecology. For this purpose, the argument presented here has two key elements. The first is to show the appearance of a rupture that has been fundamental to the development of the discipline, and the second element of the argument is directed toward pointing out what determined that rupture. In turn, this specified determination will be given by an inherent norm of the environmental issues context, which prescribed a preferential cut of the physical dimension that gives privilege to large spatial magnitudes.
