Any inquiry about film production from an economic or organizational perspective has serious information pitfalls. Part of the problem has to do with deficiencies in the available data. But the nature of these activities should also be considered, because they are organized by projects and hence in them the firm (as an organizer of resources) has a minor role than that observable in other economic activities. This has implications in terms of the quality of the statistical information produced. We also note that there has been little progress in the literature on the characterization of the firms that undertake film production in Argentina. Thus, the objective of this article is to characterize film production in Argentina. Thus, we propose: (i) to evaluate some of the existing secondary sources; (ii) to develop a typology of ways of producing films; and (iii) to characterize the agents involved in film production. The central findings of the paper show, on the one hand, the limitations of the existing information about Argentine film production, and, on the other hand, that there is a great diversity of film producers. This article is based on existing studies, secondary information and a larger research project.
