The paper presents a quantitative analysis of trade performance and competitiveness of the Argentinean olive oil in the international market. Methodologically, the study is divided into two parts: the first one, with a static character and using a battery of typical indicators, characterizes the sector’s current capacity to compete. The second one, with a dynamic character, unravels the factors explaining the changes in performance, among which those in the ability to compete. To this end, the authors used the Ahmadi-Esfahani version of the constant market share method. The main results show low participation in world trade, but highlight the potential for growth in a growing consumer market, albeit facing serious difficulties related to the positioning strategy of the business.
