Thousands of military officers involved inhuman rights violations during the lastdictatorship are being judged by federalcourts. Undoubtedly, this unprecedentedevent has political and cultural consequencesthat need to be understood and analyzed. Inorder to understand the impact made by thisnew memory scene on the argentine army, this paper aims at giving an account of thetensions and conflicts that affect its members:working and retired officers, army authorities, and relatives and friends of military officerskilled by the guerrilla in the 70s. This willallow not only to show the way the militaryofficers’ memory of the repression has shiftedand become contradictory, but also to identifyaccurately the continuities and repetitionswhich form part of the institutional culture, which, although it lives on the reproductionof its values, traditions and rituals, it ischallenged by its position about the way itbehaved in the recent past.
