Curtain walls are frequently used in building enclosures, but their energy performance is still under study. Although those systems may have integrally glazed fronts, they are sustained by constructive elements that are potential thermal bridges. In this work, thermal indexes (thermal transmittance and solar heat gain coefficient) are calculated for a commonly used curtain wall system in Argentina. The impact of curtain wall modelization on building thermal loads estimates is then analyzed through building simulations in EnergyPlus. The results indicate that the metallic structure increases the whole façade thermal transmittance compared with the glazing thermal transmittance. Consequently, modelizing curtain walls in building energy simulation software without considering their self-supporting structure is found to produce significant errors of building heating and cooling demands estimates
