The spatial categories usually used (area, subarea, region, microregion) are analyzed, keeping in mind that these categories are methodological resources employed to organize, systematize and present information. As a result, these categories are susceptible to modification or adaptation depending on the problems under study. In the abstract, we cannot say that there are good or bad proposals. We can only say whether a proposal is relevant or not to the problem for which such was constructed. The socio-cultural dynamic of the prehispanic populations was not limited by the cultural or ecological variations that we take into account when we define space categories. One clear example is the permanent interaction between settled populations in the lowlands and the highlands. In order to interpret the history and culture of prehispanic populations, it is important to define the relationships and boundaries of interaction between different populations. For such purpose, we can use the spatial concepts already in existence.
