This text is the result of an ethnographic study carried out in settlements that emerged through land occupations in different parts of Comodoro Rivadavia (Chubut, Argentina). The article assumes an analysis of the weight that land occupations had in urban conformation along the local history. In particular, I will focus on how oil extraction printed it stamp on the classification of local space, determining that the difficulties of legal access to urban land and housing suffered by popular sectors have been a constant in regional history. In turn, the text is organized around three axes: urban policies on access to urban land, the actions of the builder / property market, and discursive practices of those who staged land takeovers as a way to deal with their housing problems.
