This paper analyses the dynamics of economic activity differences in Latin America and the Caribbean since 1960; and estimates the extent that these differences are influenced by ageing, education, predominant type of activity, degree of urbanization and migration. Based on census data from the Minnesota Population Center, certain statistical procedures are applied to 20- 59 year-old female economic activity rate as an indicator of global economic activity. Although the results do not show conclusive evidence referring to disparities reduction at regional al sub-national levels, they point out that differences are strongly influenced by the proportion of children, the education achieved, the particularities of each country and the year. Moreover, they remark the need to consider the limitations of information used to develop forecasts of activity rates.
