In recent years, the Mapuche flag Wenufoye, has gained visibility in public spaces across Argentine Patagonia, entering primary schools through its presentation by Mapuche students, who gift a Wenufoye to their school as part of the ceremony known as the “Pledge to the Argentine Flag.” This practice challenge dominant Nation-State frameworks of identity, territory and nationalism thar underpins this country. These events often face resistance from some school families, requiring from the community and/or Mapuche organizations to carry out and defend this initiative. This article reconstructs experiences between 2018 and 2023, based on the accompaniment of Mapuche children who presented the Wenufoye flag to their respective educational institutions in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, in the province of Río Negro to analyze their involvement.
