In this work we present a mathematical modeling cycle that supports a teaching proposal for a linear algebra curricular course, corresponding to the study plan of various Engineering careers. The real situation from which we start consists of the anticipation of the winning strategy of the game “Lights out!” through mathematization and mathematical work with its dynamics. This game consists of a luminous keyboard, where some lights are on and others are off, the objective being to turn off all the lights under certain rules. We describe the phases of a modeling cycle detailing processes and subprocesses. We explain a possible mathematical and computer model to solve the problem and the potential of digital technology regarding the validation of the results obtained in the mathematical world, in the real problematic situation.
