This article aims to understand the relationships between the exercise of violence against one’s own body and the experiences of suffering that structure the lives of young people in secondary education. The testimonies collected in a socio-educational study carried out in two public secondary schools in peripheral urban areas of the City of La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, make it possible to affirm that eating practices, skin cuts and addictions are particular forms of expression of bodily existence in the struggle for recognition. The intra- and inter-generational support networks made up of families, peers, friends, or affinity groups, represent an affective support that enables the elaboration of social pain.
