The political history of Buenos Aires province is central to understanding the democracy construction between the military regime collapse in 1983 and the crisis in 2001, both because of its specific political identity and it imbrication in the national context. This article synthesizes the political dynamics involving the mayor parties through which elections were won and partially the minor parties. The article reviews and analyses internal party regrouping, breakups, changes and continuity of leading political figures, leadership construction and political practices, especially those which later became part of coalition governments. Focused on subnational politics, and taking into account the scale involved, it concludes with an interpretation of the main debates encouraged by the party-political history of that period.
