This research seeks to reflect on the experience of social mobilization constituted as Consorcio Esperanza Yerbatera (CEY). An organizational experience of Yerba Mate producing cooperatives in Misiones, which began a process of social mobilization to market ready-to-eat merchandise, in order to reduce intermediation and capture part of the value generated in the circuit. The beginnings of the Consortium date back to 2011, the year in which 11 cooperatives endorsed the proposal to unify efforts to begin developing actions and modifying their economic situation, characterized by difficulties in marketing yerba mate ready-to-consume in retail markets, and seeing forced to offer, in the best of cases, yerba mate canchada to large companies. This intermediation carried out by marketers has historically resulted in a difficulty for cooperatives and their members to obtain sufficient income for reproduction. This article is oriented to consider the hierarchical relationships that operate in the productive circuit of yerba mate in the Province of Misiones. In particular, to address the practices and strategies that open up a dispute in the political arena for the appropriation of the surplus, considering the inequalities that the different actors have to achieve it. The methodology to be used will be qualitative, based on a case study of the Esperanza Yerbatera Consortium, located in Misiones as of 2011. The sources of information used in this article are primary sources, compiled from semi-structured interviews. Likewise, secondary sources are used from the systematization of data from academic, journalistic sources, official statistics, technical reports, etc.
