The purpose of this article is to apply some theoretical tools that have been traditionally used for the analysis of the ludic environment of digital games in order to make explicit the ideological discourse entailed in the ludic systems of a set of board games. This work will retrieve some contributions of the so called ludological and narratological studies of videogames, as well as contributions coming from philosophy. Since this article also aims at generating an interpretation of board games that will emphasize their formal structure, we will be able to recognize a series of ideological assumptions that are present in the relationship between the gameplay and the extensional semantics where the games participate. Three titles will be especially analyzed and taken into account: “Die Siedler von Catan” (Kosmos 1995), Puerto Rico (Alea 2002) and Archipelago (Ludically 2012).
