Fluid flow has several engineering applications. The objective of the present investigation was the analysis of the uncertainty through which the selection of instruments used for the calculation of the average air velocity in a pipe at different working frequencies of the blower was carried out. In addition, the discharge coefficient was determined experimentally, at each working frequency, for the orifice plate used in the experiments. The uncertainties for all measurements were estimated following the "Guide for the expression of uncertainty in measurement", a tool published by the International Organization for Standardization. The results obtained showed that the magnitude of these uncertainties is a function of frequency and measuring instrument. For high frequencies, the Pitot tube connected to the U-shaped manometer presented the lowest uncertainty; at low frequencies, the analog propeller anemometer did, and for intermediate frequencies, the digital Pitot anemometer did. The digital manometer presented low uncertainty values, but was always outperformed by other instruments. The values of the discharge coefficient obtained were in agreement with those of the literature, presented a moderate uncertainty, and could be used in future velocity measurements.
