Hearing impairments are conditions that affect a high percentage of the Society. Althoughthere are devices that improve the quality of life forpeople with these problems, they tend to be expensiveand not to fulfill the user requirements. Thiswork focuses on a study and implementation of a spectralcompression algorithm, whose goal is to spectrallymap the sounds to let a person with a specific hearingcondition perceive them. The algorithms are implementedon a low-cost hearing aid device based on thedsPIC33EP512MU810 of Microchip. Subjective experimentsusing a hearing impairment simulator aredone in order to validate the study. Finally, experimentalmeasurements are carried out to analyze theperformance of the implemented hearing aid device.Obtained results demonstrate the advantage of theSPINC algorithmover the othermethods under study. The frequency transposition algorithm is successfully implemented in the developed hearing aid device.
