This work proposes a rereading of Borges' first collection of poems, Fervor de Buenos Aires (1923), based on new materials recently found by the “Writing and Invention” research group of the UNMdP and CONICET. These are courses and conferences that Borges prepared and gave between 1950 and 1952 in different places in Argentina and in Montevideo. There, he recovers procedures and symbols from those first verses to redefine their reading in relation to the new political and social context. In these years, the writer maintains a constant controversy against Peronism. I propose to explore the hypothesis that this belligerent preaching becomes more evident in his role as an orator than in his writings and is made effective through self-referential scenes that refer to childhood or youthful experience. Postulates from a previous book are taken up in which nationalism was the variable of analysis to investigate the changes in Borges's poetics given that, in the light of this unpublished word, the theses outlined there are confirmed more clearly.
