Objectives: This paper seeks to analyze the impact of Mental Health Act No. 26,657 on the actors who are (directly or indirectly) involved in its implementation. Methodology: A review of the related literature and interviews with key informants in the healthcare system were carried out. Results: People who require mental health services as well as those who should provide, regulate, and finance them are affected by the sanction of the act. Although the main goal of the act is to improve quality of life for patients, coordination of services, social security coverage for new needs and institutional adaptation to the new act, the measures taken so far are not enough yet and jeopardize the compliance of such act.
