In the past decades, black people's presence in Argentina has acquired a new importance which contrasts with the invisibility of blackness in the past. This phenomenon is due, on one hand, to recent migrations from Africa, and, on the other hand, a new interest in afro issues in the public sphere. If, traditionally, racism worked from a logic ofhiding/whitening this population, recent events force us to rethink the relationship between racism and blackness. This paper is divided into two segments. First, we will do a critical analysis of classic studies on blackness, to get some clues to think recent changes. Second, we will attempt to approach this new situation emphasizing the creation of black identity and the development of their organizations, the State's relationship with afroculture, its intervention policies and possible tendencies, considering the possibility of a reconfiguration of racism.
