The victory of the Cambiemos coalition in the 2015 presidential elections in Argentina and the parliamentary coup d’état in Brazil in 2016 revitalized the debate on the interrelation between economic and political powers. This article asks itself about the nature of the link between the two: are we facing an organic transformation process of the modes of political domination in Latin America, concomitant with the structural changes in the accumulation of capital at a global level? The research analyzes the trajectories of officials who served in ministerial positions of the national executive branch during the governments of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) and Michel Temer (2016-2018), using a methodology based on prosopography. These cabinets were compared longitudinally with the ones of Carlos Menem (1989-1999), Fernando Collor de Mello (1990-1992), Itamar Franco (1992-1994) and Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995-2002). The paper postulates that during the second decade of the 21st century the economic elites, in particular the Argentines, advanced in a colonization process of positions in the national executive branch that, due to its magnitude and characteristics, provides elements for answering this paper’s question in an affirmative manner.
