In recent years, even with periods of recession associated with the fall in activity due to the pandemic and the policies applied during the neoliberal government, the Argentine labor market has shown relatively stable indicators. Low unemployment rates, low underemployment rates, high activity rates and high levels of inequality within the working class are some of the salient data of the period. Beyond these processes, we can identify two long-term processes that operate as common trends in most Latin American countries. On the one hand, an accentuated and sustained process of de-salarization that brings with it both subjective and objective effects on the conditions of a significant part of the Argentine working class. On the other hand, there is a mass of salaried workers with incomes below the poverty line. In this article we investigate how the effects of these tendencies of contemporary capitalism operate in Argentina. In particular, we will analyze the differential effects of the processes of de-salarization and impoverishment of the Argentine working class according to their position in the social structure. The study is based on a quantitative analysis using official statistics from the Household Surveys for the period 2016-2023.
