During the last decade, Latin America has been subject to a new assault of global capital, through which a powerful recolonization of territory and natural commons was introduced. Nevertheless, this extractive attack is being strongly challenged by a new cycle of social struggles in the region. This study looks into the conceptual challenges that these historical conditions impose on the interpretation of social conflict. The reflection points to be noted that the natural commons defense takes center stage in the conflict dynamic, as becomes key point in determining a social antagonism which tends to be configured as a civilizational crisis.
