The article explores the relevance of the platformisation of social life in contemporary capitalism, which is permeated by finance and precariousness. Starting with an introduction to the concepts of datafication, algorithmisation and profiling, the paper takes a critical look at the platformisation of culture, production and work, as crucial areas of social life in which both objective and subjective transformations are taking place. In the cultural industry, social networks extend the influence of advertising language in culture and consolidate scrolling as the dominant mode of reception. In terms of production, platforms combine rent-seeking with the generation of relative surplus value from abstract labour as a fundamental mode of valorisation. Finally, it is pointed out that algorithmic management relatively depersonalises production relations, which, in their relationship with flexible working hours and piecework wages, shape work identities that value self-reliance in comparison with other types of work.
