Dwarves are common presences in the Spanish romances of chivalry (16th-17th centuries). However, they have not been as well studied as other types of prodigious characters in this literary genre, therefore many of their facets have not yet been sufficiently investigated. In this sense, chapter xxviii of Primaleón (1512) provides a good opportunity to explore two of them: their ability to star in love situations, instead of only acting as intermediaries between lovers, and the possible influence of the public and private reality of the courtly dwarfs of the Iberian Peninsula on this form of literature.
