In recent decades, the peripheries of Latin American metropolises have shown accelerated transformations and growing tensions that have consolidated and increased the presence of urban borders. In addition to inquiries about private urbanizations phenomena, the peripheries also demand renewed studies to recognize their variations in popular urbanization areas. The objective is to analyze different types of material and symbolic urban borders in a portion of recent occupation within the western axis of Buenos Aires Metropolitan Region (BAMR). A mixed methodology is proposed, it contemplates both a cartographic outlook 'from above' and an everyday urban experience perspective, 'from below'. Three expressions of borders were identified in the study area: borders between formality and informality, jurisdictional borders based on state territoriality, and everyday micro-borderlines of distancing. These three are related and juxtaposed by deepening the material and symbolic restrictions that operate in the everyday life of the people who live, work and circulate there.
