Cattle can be exposed to parasites and viruses that cause impacts that affect meat and/or milk production as well as reproductive disorders. The use of natural biocides is widely developed, trying to reduce environmental problems such as the development of resistance. In this work, the biocidal effect of extracts from different parts of the chinaberry tree (Melia azedarach) has been tested against the horn fly (hematophagous ectoparasite) and two bovine viruses (bovine viral diarrhea -vDVB- and bovine herpes virus 4-BoHV-4-). The highest efficacy in the mortality of H. irritans was found in the fruit-hexane extract. For the vDVB virus, it was observed to be inhibited by the fruit-ethanol extract, while no effect was found on the 4-BoHV-4 virus.
