This study presents an exploratory theoretical review of the concepts of proactivity and agency in the context of higher education. It examines the relationship between these constructs, highlighting how proactivity materializes the capacity for agency through concrete actions in educational settings. The paper explores theoretical foundations from various perspectives, including Self-Determination Theory, which explains human behavior through the satisfaction of basic psychological needs: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. The reviewed research identifies effective strategies for fostering proactive and agentic behaviors in university students, such as developing autonomy, strengthening self-efficacy, and creating educational environments that support initiative. The findings suggest that both agency and proactivity can be cultivated through well-planned educational interventions that incorporate collaborative work, critical reflection, and support for student autonomy. The review concludes that fostering these capacities is essential for enriching learning environments and enhancing the educational experience in higher education, emphasizing the importance of designing educational contexts that empower students as active agents in their own learning processes.
