The article aims to analyze the life trajectories of the nursing staff with a staggered training path from home caregiver to technicians or nursing graduates, unraveling the web of meanings that are built in relation to three axes: vocation, care and responsibility. The people interviewed carried out their work in the pandemic scenario, and the narrated experiences give an account of a series of transformations where the dimension of what was experienced expresses the impacts generated at a biographical, personal and social level. The performative nature of the care task makes it possible to reflect on the impacts that transitions to the professionalization of their task have on the biographies of nursing personnel, something that, according to their own narratives, combines a series of disadvantages and advantages, according to variables of social class, gender, ethnicity, age, among others. Therefore, we seek to unravel these aspects considering the routes in the transition from being trained and working as caregivers to studying a nursing career, sharing life experiences that reveal that the task of care is interwoven, interweaved and reconfigured in their relationship. with the educational and labor field, the professional world, the family tradition.
