Abstract

These three tables belong to the article: Tebes, J.M., Archaeological correlates of a patronage-based polity: The case of Iron Age Edom. In K. Schmidt & P. Bienkowski (eds.), The Archaeology of Iron Age Transjordan: Imperial Entanglements and Local Networks. Bloomsbury Academic, 2027. The tables assemble material evidence bearing on the political, social, and economic organization of the Iron Age II polity of Edom (southern Jordan): writing systems, administrative sealings, prestige goods, and ceramic typologies. The data derive from a systematic bibliographic compilation of excavation and survey reports from multiple sites. They comprise: Table 1. Material evidence of writing in Edomite sites (inscriptions, ostraca, bullae, seals and seal impressions, and stamped/marked pottery); Table 2. Survey of material culture in Iron Age Edom (an extensive catalogue organized by category, including figurines, metal objects, ceramic objects, faience, glass, bone, ivory, stone, textile-related tools, wood, shells/molluscs); Table 3. Special pottery types in Edomite sites (a quantitative matrix of 20 fine-ware ceramic types (bowls, jugs, etc.) distributed across 14 sites, with site totals). The principal variables are: archaeological site, object type/category, description, quantity (where applicable), and bibliographic source. This data is potentially useful for studies of patronage-based polities and prestige economy; analysis of exchange networks; archaeology of religion; epigraphic research.
