Acroptilon repens L. is a perennial weed fully distributed at the low valley of the Negro river that leads to several damages interfering over local crops. It has been reported losses at onions commercial yield over 64 % due to this weed competition. At the present work it has been assess if these losses in yield are linked with aerial or underground competition between onion crop and A.repens. A 5 L plot assay has been conducted at the greenhouse from Comahue University. Four treatments have been conducted: Control: 1 onion plant along, Aerial competition: 1 onion plant surrounded by plots of A.repens, Underground competition: 1 onion plant with 1 A.repens ramet in the same plot, and Aerial and Underground competition: previous idem, surrounded by plots of A.repens (n=5). It has been observed a lower development at those onion bulbs under both treatments of underground competition, without any difference between them that is why we concluded that underground competition should be responsible of yield reduction at onion crops.
