This paper’s objective is to show that the restricted use of the term Agroecology greatly limits its scope and addresses it from a different political perspective. The political nature of the concept is disregarded by the institutions, which consider it as a mere technique. On the other hand, social movements see Agroecology as a tool for development. Taking these two positions into consideration, we wonder “which stand will the scientific community take in this debate?” We believe that this transformation, which puts forward a concept that is politically silent and socially neutral, is simply a strategy to approach this concept from a different political view. This strategy is aimed at linking Agroecology and neoliberalism. From our point of view, the scientific community has to be aware of this issue and reflect on the political nature of its fields of action.
