This work aims to investigate the particular way of configuring an imaginary escape that refers to literature. Located in an unspecified future time, the story “The Elephant Cemetery” (2008) by Miguel Esquirol presents, among other aspects, an idea of the future in which Bolivian literary production survives. The conception of a “literature of anticipation” (2006) by Fernando Reati and a “literature of speculation” (2024) by María Laura Pérez Gras will be the theoretical catalyst that will drive a reflection on the possibilities of “anticipation” and “speculation” that can be conceived within the text while raising a discussion regarding the temporal configuration in complex narrative plots.
