The article proposes to expose the model of the conscious woman as the one responsible for her emancipation, in the light of the benefits granted to women during the Second Republic through legislation that introduced various social changes. The laws in favor of workers sometimes benefit them, however, the patriarchal system makes it difficult for them to benefit from these advantages. To do this, we analyze qualitatively what are the characteristics that are resignified in this new type of woman in a context marked by the resistances and negotiations that preceded the changes. We have presented respectively the woman in her controversial job; the married woman and the benefit of her employment for the home; and the woman’s commitment to the neighborhood, made with her earnings. We found that these women did not only defend the nation or take responsibility for its emancipation, but also actively participated in the well-being of their family and community: their awareness led them to do paid work to relieve their husband's expenses, to control reproduction in order to better manage expenses, and to help several needy people, individually and collectively.
