Sustainable development is defined as the one that meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Under this theoretical framework, the authors position ‘human factors’ as a key discipline to achieve the necessary balance between economic, social and natural capital. While the scope and objectives of Green Ergonomics are defined, the specific contributions within our research line in sustainable natural lighting (INAHE - CONICET) are presented. Our research aims to achieve green built environments in terms of their environmental factors and energy consumption, and at the same time ergonomically designed to allow an efficient and effective work performance (in offices, schools, transitional spaces) along with comfort, health, and safety. The results of our research are described for different lines of work:(i) Prediction and prevention of psychological glare: Degree of Eye Opening Indicator, glare sensitivity, and the epidemiological approach, (ii) Natural lighting and human performance: Effects on human cognition, normal aging of the visual system, visual performance, modeling, and visual accessibility; (iii) Methodological contributions: dynamic simulation and metrics, mobile devices apps, low cost eye tracker.
