In the Middle Ages, memory involved a multiplicity of elements, from words and texts to images and funerary monuments. In times of dynastic crisis, the role of royal mausoleums, as spaces where a family-individual link was produced, allowed the connection and continuity of the lineage to be strengthened, as well as it ensured its memory. In the chapel of the New Kings, the tombs of Juana Manuel and Catalina of Lancaster, queens consorts, mothers and bearers of dynastic rights, permitted the unfolding of an entire symbolic communication with a political background, where blood ties were one of the main elements. Thus, the presence of these sovereigns, along with their respective husbands, demonstrated the importance that they had for the monarchy, in addition to allowing the construction of a memory by virtue of their maternal role and legitimization of a dynasty.
