Matrices Regionales IP de las provincias argentinas de Jujuy & Salta

Abstract

The lack of reliable subnational statistics hinders the analysis of provincial economies in Argentina. To help overcome this gap, this technical note presents the estimation of regional input–output matrices for Jujuy and Salta, based on the 2018 Argentine Social Accounting Matrix and provincial gross value added (GVA) data, applying the Flexible Location Quotient (FLQ) method. The results make it possible to characterize the productive structures of both provinces, highlight differences in their sectoral diversification, and assess the degree of self-sufficiency and linkages of their main activities. Overall, the exercise illustrates the value of regionalization as a strategy to fill statistical gaps and provide useful tools for designing development policies in heterogeneous federal contexts such as Argentina.
