This article tries to constitute a contribution to the knowledge about the processes of musealization of private collections and about the actors that intervene in these processes. To do this, an approach is made to the steps that were carried out with respect to the residence of the Estevez de Rosario family, which became the city's Museum of Decorative Art around 1968. The origin of this museum is explained from the legacy from the Estevez couple to the municipality, for the creation of a museum house exclusively integrated with their private collection. Once the donation was accepted, the heritage, space and circulation had to be organized. It was urgent to musealise and patrimonialize the legacy, a task for which Pedro Alberto Sinópoli was appointed. To reconstruct the aforementioned processes, work is done with the documentary collections kept in the museum's archive and with the personal archive of its organizer and director for thirty years. Its study makes it possible to understand some of the decisions made regarding the distribution of space, the structure of the rooms and the hierarchy of the heritage that the institution contains.
