Manuel Gálvez's novelistic convention conceals ideological and literary tensions, which leave traces in dialogues, free indirect discourse, adjectivation, punctuation. The moral-aesthetic control of the authorial narrator is affirmed on female characters, in La maestra normal (1914) and Nacha Regules (1919), novels of wide circulation in the climate of a powerful nation, democratic republic with agroexporting progress and normalist education. The narrator exposes the author's androcentrism, nationalism and Catholicism without releasing the character, covering social problems with an excess of direct and indirect discourse, monophonic in a guarded cultured language. Unnecessary proof of evident social thesis for the author, the novel dramatizes lives precarized by sexual gender, omitting socioeconomic conditions under stereotype of sentimental weakness. Faced with the limited labor possibilities of women outside the home, the virile novelist saturates the determinability of gender and places teachers and prostitutes in the same category, passive agents in current, novelable affairs. Woman's body suffers the effects of the drama it unleashed and serves to bill successful novels in a decent language, regulated by the educational system.
