Abstract

The interview is a technique used in different fields, such as journalism, clinical, police, etc. In addition, it is one of the preferred tools within qualitative research. As some authors maintain, the interview is a strategy to get people to talk about what they know, think and believe. It is a form of dialogue, of communication, from which it is proposed to produce statements that materialize meanings of social life. The Bakhtin Circle, Russian thinkers from the early 20th century, offer a complex web of discursive theories that allow us to reflect on the technique of the interview as a dialogic and occurrence encounter. This approach not only complements the methodological strategy, but also supports the reflexivity inherent to all qualitative research and provides contributions to delve into the analytical moment of the research. Understanding the interview as a dialogic event implies reflecting on the idea of understanding, and not only what occurs in communicative events, but also understanding the other. This task presupposes an ethical position towards our interviewees. In the research profession we know that there are no recipes, that it is not a job based on a linear way without dangers. Research is, rather, a craft task. Based on our interdisciplinary research experience, then, our interest is to share those aspects that mobilized us and allowed us to reflect on what we were addressing. That is, these reflections serve as input for both methodological reflections in the social and human sciences, as well as for the problems to be investigated from semiotics.
