This study aims to investigate the mineralogy and diagenetic processes involved in fossil woods from the Carapacha Formation. The techniques applied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and polarization optical microscopy allowed the recognition and characterization of the phases present: quartz, calcite and iron oxides. The mineralizations follow the pattern of organic textures and with polarized light the plant morphology is distinguished with light tones. The relationship between the minerals present in the collection of the silicified woods and the age of the Formation was considered in order to reinterpret the environment and consider some ecological, climatological and biogeographical aspects of the vegetation that developed during the Permian.
