In this paper Kierkegaard´s theory of love (Works of Love, 1847) is examined from the critic to christianity developed by Feuerbach in The Essence of Christianity (1841 – 1843) and Lectures on the Essence of Religion (1848). Kierkegaard and Feuerbach make a fundamental distinction between two concepts of self-love. The negative concept of selflove (egoism) obstructs not only the relation with the neighbor but also the relation with oneself. The positive concept of self-love is the true background of a successfull relation with the other and an authentic relation with oneself. Feuerbach thinks that the authentic bond with the other is based on the reciprocity and self-affirmation, Kierkegaard thinks that the real love demands self-negation.
