The figure of the author in the poetry of Luis García Montero, with his name and an undeniable autobiographical imaginary, becomes the centre of discursive operations which, although they articulate autofictional versions of the subject, don't hide the reference to the actual person who sings the book. This paper approaches that authorial figure, attending to a double side: the author´s name and empiric shifters that refer to his historical life, and the contract which the reader, which demands an act of extratextual recognition. The poetic verbalization of an author provides an imaginary truth to his identity that biological life fails to articulate.
