The chapter systematically reviews the experience in political prospective of Fernando Calderón (La Paz, Bolivia, 1948), one of today’s most renowned Latin American sociologists. As the title of the contribution announces, it fundamentally considers three stages: the crisis of the patrimonial-corporate experience and the rise of neoliberalism, the experience of progressive Latin American governments, and the “triple crisis” which, according to Calderón, has marked the last five or six years, a crisis to which the impact of the covid-19 pandemic has more recently been added. Calderón sought to think Latin American temporality and futures in each of these three stages. In addition to reviewing methodological and scenario-building issues in some detail, the chapter highlights Calderón’s emphasis on the long times and the need to outline “possible utopias”, linked to the reformulation of the Latin Americanist imaginary in the information era.
