This paper intends to question the symbolic foundation currently operating as a justification of eligibility for retirement in countries with pension systems, financed by contributions, as the case of Argentina. It is argued that having originated from insurance schemes, the pension is placed in an operative and symbolical space, inherent to "contribution", which impacts the perpetuation of elitist, exclusive systems, distributively regressive and even unsustainable from the point of view of its funding It is aimed to refute the value of the contribution as a key element of pension policy, making it possible to think the right to retire from budgets other than the "consideration".
