This article presents a detailed analysis of some fundamental concepts in the modern revision of Classical Political Economy, exploring their properties within the framework of the production of commodities by means of commodities. Key concepts such as the notion of surplus, potential growth rate, distributive conflict, inflationary dynamics resulting from this conflict, the distinction between basic and non-basic commodities, and the analysis of the choice of techniques are presented and explained in detail. The paper then extends these concepts to the context of a small, open, and semi-industrialized economy, examining how their properties change in this setting. This extension reveals a strong alignment with the classic notions of Latin American structuralism, such as the center-periphery distinction, the notion of dependency, exchange rate inflation, the effects of deteriorating terms of trade, as well as the ideas of external constraint, structural heterogeneity, and unbalanced productive structure. Based on these alignments, the article states the possibility of theoretical compatibility between both approaches.
