This article deals with the course of the Socialist Party of Mendoza in dialogue with the tensions between institutional designs and political practices during the period of expanded democracy. Socialism emerged as a key player on the provincial political chessboard despite the fact that electoral regulations hindered its access to public office. Nevertheless, the socialists modelled a repertoire of political practices in the public space that strengthened a process of territorial and political expansion. In this sense, we explore the political practices and ideas of socialism without losing sight of its links with the rest of the party spectrum in the province and with the national level.
