For decades, the Venice Biennale became a recurrent and privileged subject of analysis in Jorge Romero Brest’s research. Under this argentine critic’s eyes, the major worldwide art event implied not only a parameter of the international art trends but an indicator to contrast the art production in the local field. The biennale, pursued as an “object of desire” during his years as director of the magazine Ver y Estimar, became a reaching point when Romero Brest, protagonist of an unprecedented visibility, participated as a jury in the edition of 1962. Nevertheless, the fact of awarding Antonio Berni the prize became an ironic triumph in the design of his modernist program.
