I propose a contrastive reading about the function of «myth» in Argentine literary criticism. The starting point is found in the readings of Roland Barthes during the 50's, that is, the semiological critic, there the myth is shown as a crystallized doxa of bourgeois society. In this foundational sense, the semiological criticism is presented as a demystifying practice, which elaborates a paradoxa opposed to the myth. This position is elaborated by different exponents of the Argentine critic among them, those that come together in the magazines LENGUAjes and Los Libros. Finally, a controversial counterpoint is drawn around the significance of the myth through the figures of Beatriz Sarlo and Horacio González.
