The objective of this article is to describe and analyze the factors and processes that shape the repertoire of demands that detainees display in Penitentiary Unit No. 2. To do so, we develop an analytical framework based on the interweaving of concepts and arguments from two fields of study: the sociology of prisons and studies of collective action and social movements. From this scheme we identify and describe a set of objective and subjective conditions that enable and restrict the emergence of certain types of demands, and that, in this way, give a particular shape to the repertoire observed in this prison.
